Privacy policy

Onul (the website at onul-korean.vercel.app and the Onul Android and iPhone apps) is a free Korean-learning app. We collect as little as possible. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking.

What stays on your device

Your saved phrases, your daily streak and your topic choices are stored only in your browser's local storage on your own device. We never receive them. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app removes them.

Questions you send us

If you use “Ask Min”, we store the question you type and the optional nickname you give so we can answer it. Answered questions, with the nickname you chose, may be shown publicly in the app. Please don't include personal details such as your full name, email or phone number. Questions are stored with our database provider, Supabase. To have a question removed, ask through Ask Min or contact us at the developer email shown on our Google Play page.

Deleting your data

This applies to the Onul website and the Onul Android app (Onul: Korean Phrase a Day). The only data we hold about you is a question you sent through Ask Min and the optional nickname you gave with it. To have it deleted:

  1. Send a new message through Ask Min (Explore tab) saying “Please delete my question”, with the nickname you used and roughly what you asked; or email the developer address shown on our Google Play page.
  2. We delete the matching question and nickname within 30 days.

Otherwise we keep questions for as long as Ask Min is running, so answers stay available to other learners. Your saved phrases and streak never leave your device — clear the app's storage or uninstall it to remove them.

Listening to phrases

The Listen button uses your device's built-in text-to-speech. We don't record or receive any audio.

Daily reminders (iPhone app)

If you turn on daily reminders in the iPhone app, the notifications are scheduled on your phone by iOS. We don't receive your reminder time or any device identifier, and there are no push servers involved.

Hosting

The app is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability. We don't use these to identify you.

Children

Onul is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
